Mitt Likes Elevators for Cars, Not So Much for People

Mitt Romney is cool with elevators for cars (at least, when they're his cars), but his record as governor of Massachusetts shows in two instances, he wasn't so hot on elevators for humans with disabilities. Romney vetoed two pieces of legislation that would have improved elevators in order to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act, BuzzFeed reports. Ironically at the same time, Buzzfeed notes, he had a private elevator in the statehouse locked for his exclusive use.

The legislation in question came before Romney in 2006; the first piece was a $40,000 elevator improvement project and the second was an additional $25,000 project to make ADA improvements. Romney said the programs "would be nice to have, but which we cannot justify paying for out of rainy day funds. A smaller number of these projects are just pure pork."
